Communication Assessment
Communication difficulties can be distressing for the person experiencing them and can lead to high levels of frustration and a sense of isolation. Early assessment and introduction of therapy intervention is crucial to maximising a person’s recovery and reducing any negative emotions they might be experiencing. We therefore provide the following:
A thorough formal and informal assessment of communication skills
Advice on the most effective ways to support and facilitate communication
Recommendations for communication therapy approaches if clinically indicated
Discuss options for ongoing therapy sessions if clinically indicated
Swallow Assessment
Swallowing difficulties (known as dysphagia) can lead to health issues such as aspiration pneumonia, serious choking episodes, dehydration and malnutrition. Speech Therapy North East can provide a formal swallow assessment and provide recommendations for managing swallowing difficulties safely.
Clinical assessment of swallowing

Provide advice and training regarding diet and fluid modification
Recommend swallowing rehabilitation techniques if clinically indicated
Therapy Sessions
We can offer blocks of regular therapy sessions to help improve communication and/or swallowing skills.

Therapy sessions can be completed in the comfort of your own home
Therapy programs are provided to enable work between therapist led sessions – crucial for ensuring effectiveness of therapy!
Training
We provide a range of training packages to enable people to work more effectively with people with communication and/or swallowing difficulties. Bespoke training packages are also available to meet a specific need of the intended audience.

Voice Therapy
We can offer blocks of regular therapy sessions to target any changes to the quality of your voice.
A recent assessment by an Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) doctor is required before commencing therapy sessions

Therapy sessions can be completed in the comfort of your own home with the option of remote therapy sessions if clinically possible
